ベトナムに惹かれたいきさつ
大学時代　フランスの植民地の授業を履修し　少しずつ興味がわいたのがきっかけです

1000年に渡り中国文化の影響を強く受けてきたベトナム
19世紀にはフランスの統治時代が始まり　フレンチ・コロニアルと呼ばれる様式の建築が建てられ　東西の文化が混在する独特の雰囲気を持つ今のベトナムは　多くの外国人を惹き付けます

日本人である私も然り
60年前の昭和の日本を彷彿させるといわれるベトナム
私はその時代の日本を知りませんが　初めてベトナムを訪れたときに感じた懐かしさには
胸を締め付けられるような鋭さがあり　それに惹きつかれ移住を決心したのでした

フランス人には　ベトナムはどのようにうつるのでしょうか？
自分の周りにいたフランス人の方々は　60年前のフランスを思い出す　と口を揃えおっしゃいます

激動の歴史を辿り翻弄され続け　時代を経て絡み合う諸外国との複雑なかかわり
自分には決して踏み入ることのできない　ベトナムの方々の想いを目の当たりに　様々な dilemme を感じながら　3年間を過ごしたものでした
この国特有の dilemme こそ　私がとりつかれてしまった所以なのかもしれません

フランス語を活かし生活をしたい　という当初の計画は果たせなくとも（フランス語話者はかなり年配の方の世代に限られておりました）それ以上のものを　経験することができたと自負しています
ベトナムの風土に溶け込んだフランス由来の文化に触れ　日本と同じ儒教精神に基づく日々の生活に　最後まで飽きることはありませんでした

do you have a hometown besides your real hometown?

for me saigon used to be where i felt i belonged to.

if only i could say it out loud but somehow i cannot...

seems that i refuse to see its changing rapidly and how i wished that the time would freeze at the point i knew completely well about it. i was in love.

as the time passes it is natural that a city and people change and develop, which is of course, a good thing.

i was and still am just a foreigner who is rather confused to see the florissant future of the town.

would ode to youth make another step for tomorrow.

厨房でご飯を作るお姉さんに Em giong nguoi viet qua!(あなたベトナム人そっくり！)と サイゴン時代は毎日のように言われていた台詞を ここ日本でも耳にするとは...！
当時ベトナム人に間違えられるたびに Em nguoi nhat.(日本人です)と説明するのが面倒だったので 日本人しかしなさそうな髪型にしていたのが懐かしいです

報道の自由度ランキング

パリに本部のある国際的なジャーナリスト組織「国境なき記者団（仏：RSF; Reporters Sans Frontières）」が10.19 に発表した報道の自由度ランキング
記者団に50の質問をし　その答えによって決定するものだそうです

日本は昨年の17位から上昇し11位に
ベトナムは 177位の中国をしのぎ165位でした

サイゴンに滞在していた当時は 世界で最下位から数番目ときいていましたので 当時からくらべればだいぶ自由度があがったのでしょうか

splitting the bill can break a friendship

Railway Story is one of my favourite TV shows. The series last week was about Vietnam Railway; reportage throughout 40h trip from Sai Gon to Ha Noi.


Not to mention that the content was satisfying but I was rather paying attention to the staff members' list shown at the ending of the programme.


My eyes spotted at 'Hop Tac Xa ... Vietnam' which seemed a familiar name to me.


Hop Tac Xa = 合作社　(Hop=合 Tac=作 Xa=社)


The real meaning of the term is 'Corporative' where everything is shared and split evenly.


Then after a while I realized it was a slang in Vietnamese which means:


'to split the bill'.


If you stay in Vietnam for a certain time, you might realize at restaurants, that the bill is almost never shared among friends. It is usually payed by the most rich in the group or by someone who just had an income.


It is actually rude to share the bill, which can mean you won't accept the friendship in that group. So, you never 'Hop Tac Xa' with friends in Vietnam.


However if you are not comfortable with letting someone pay the bill, you　can just say:


'Hop Tac Xa di!'


A very casual and frank way to suggest, and would surprise your Vietnamese friends of using this term as an etranger!
